Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers (Restylane®, Sculptra®, Juvederm®, Skinvive®, Kybella®, RHA®) are used to add volume, by altering the contours of the face. They also fill in wrinkles. This service provides a fuller, smoother and more youthful aesthetic.
What are dermal fillers?
Also known as fillers and soft tissue fillers, dermal fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that exists naturally in the body. Fillers are used for minimally invasive aesthetic procedures to add volume, alter the contours of the face, and fill in wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are among the most popular aesthetic procedures because they carry immediate results, very few risks and little recovery time.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers work by physically restoring volume beneath the skin to smooth, sculpt, and subtly lift areas affected by aging or volume loss. Most commonly made of hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring substance in your body that attracts water — fillers are carefully injected beneath the skin to replenish what time, gravity, and collagen breakdown have taken away.
Once injected, the filler binds to water molecules, adding plumpness and hydration while stimulating a soft, natural contour.
Depending on the product used and placement, fillers can enhance lips, lift cheeks, define the jawline, smooth smile lines, and even rejuvenate hands.
The results are visible instantly and continue to refine over a few days, delivering a refreshed, youthful appearance without surgery or significant downtime. Think of it as your beauty blueprint, subtly redrawn with precision.

Where can dermal fillers be used?
Common areas to inject fillers are:
- cheeks
- lips
- jawline
- chin
- temples
- nasolabial folds
The results of dermal fillers reflect a fuller, smoother and more youthful appearance.

Cheek filler: the treatment that lifts the whole face
If you are not sure where to start, it is usually the cheeks. As the fat pads of the mid-face thin and slide downward, you get shadows under the eyes, deeper smile lines and a softer jawline. A small amount of firm hyaluronic acid filler placed high on the cheekbone puts that support back, so the whole face looks rested without anyone being able to say what changed. Most first-time cheek filler clients use 1 to 2 syringes, and because the cheeks move less than the lips, results typically last 12 to 18 months. Our licensed providers assess the full face first, since treating the cheeks often reduces how much is needed anywhere else.
Botox vs filler: which do I need?
They solve different problems and are often used together. Botox and Dysport relax the muscles that crease the skin when you move, so they treat lines that show when you frown, squint or raise your brows. Filler replaces volume, so it treats hollows, folds and lines that are there even when your face is at rest. A simple test: if the line disappears when you relax your face, it is a Botox line. If it is still there in a neutral expression, it is usually a filler job.
What your filler appointment looks like
- Consultation (complimentary). We look at your face as a whole, talk about what you want to change and map a plan, including how many syringes and in what order.
- Numbing. Topical numbing for 15 minutes. Most fillers also contain lidocaine.
- Treatment. Small, precise placements by our licensed providers, usually 20 to 40 minutes. You will see the change in the mirror before you leave.
- Follow up. A check at 2 weeks once swelling has settled, which is when a touch up makes sense if you want one.
Aftercare: what not to do after dermal filler
- Skip hard workouts, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. All of them increase swelling and bruising.
- Do not press, massage or sleep face down on the treated area for 3 to 5 days unless your provider told you to.
- Ice gently for 10 minutes at a time the first evening. Arnica, oral or topical, helps bruising fade faster.
- Hold off on makeup over injection points for 12 hours, and on retinoids, acids and facials in that area for a week.
- Wait 2 weeks before dental work, flights are fine, and plan filler at least 2 weeks before an event.
- Call or text (630) 439-7540 right away for unusual pain, blanching (white patches), or skin that looks dusky or mottled. These are rare and we want to see you the same day.
The complete list is on our aftercare page, and how to prepare is on the pre-care page.
Dermal filler FAQs
How long do dermal fillers last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6 to 12 months in the lips, about 12 months under the eyes, and 12 to 18 months in the cheeks, chin and jawline. Sculptra builds collagen gradually and can last up to 2 years. Everyone metabolizes filler at a different pace, so these are typical ranges rather than guarantees.
How much does filler cost in Elmhurst?
Lip filler starts at $499 to $750 per syringe depending on specials, cheek filler at $550 to $750, under eye filler at $599, chin and temple filler at $650 and jawline filler at $750. Many areas take 1 to 2 syringes. Payment plans are available through Cherry and CareCredit.
Does filler hurt?
With topical numbing and the lidocaine inside most fillers, clients describe pressure and a few pinches rather than pain. Lips and the area around the nose are the most sensitive; cheeks and jawline are easy for almost everyone.
What is cheek filler and how much do I need?
Cheek filler is firm hyaluronic acid filler placed on and above the cheekbone to restore the volume that thins with age. It lifts the mid-face, softens under eye shadows and smile lines and gives a rested look. Most first-timers use 1 to 2 syringes total, and results typically last 12 to 18 months.
Will I look overdone or puffy?
Overfilled faces come from too much product placed too fast, often chasing one line at a time instead of treating the cause. We assess the whole face, treat conservatively, and add more at a follow up only if you want it. The goal is that people notice you look well rested, not that you had filler.
Can filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks the filler down within a day or two. It is one of the reasons we use HA fillers for most areas. Sculptra is not an HA filler and cannot be dissolved, which is why it is placed gradually over a few sessions.
Will I bruise, and how long is the downtime?
Mild swelling for 2 to 3 days is normal and occasional small bruises can last up to a week; concealer covers them. You can go back to work the same day. Skip alcohol, fish oil, ibuprofen and aspirin for a few days beforehand if your doctor allows, and plan treatment at least 2 weeks before an event.
What is the difference between Botox and filler?
Botox relaxes the muscles that crease the skin when you move, so it treats expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Filler replaces lost volume, so it treats hollows, folds and lines that are present at rest. Many clients do both in the same visit.
Juvederm, Restylane or RHA, which filler is best?
They are all hyaluronic acid families with different textures. Softer products suit lips and under eyes, firmer ones suit cheeks, chin and jawline, and RHA is designed to move naturally in expressive areas. Your provider picks by area and goal, not by brand loyalty.
Is Sculptra better than filler?
Different jobs. HA filler gives an immediate, precise result in one area. Sculptra stimulates your own collagen over 2 to 3 months for a gradual, all over improvement in volume and skin quality that lasts up to 2 years. People who want subtle change across the whole face often prefer Sculptra; people who want a specific lift or contour choose HA filler.
Is dermal filler safe, and who does the injections?
Filler is safe when it is placed by someone trained in facial anatomy who knows how to recognize and treat the rare complication. At Accelerated Aesthetics every injection is performed by our licensed providers, our providers are trained to recognize and reverse filler problems, and you see the same provider at each visit so your plan builds over time.
