Aftercare: what not to do after microneedling
- For 24 hours, use only the gentle cleanser and hydrating serum or balm we send you home with. No makeup, no actives, no sunscreen with chemical filters.
- Skip retinoids, vitamin C, acids, scrubs and anything that tingles for 5 to 7 days.
- No sweating, gyms, saunas, hot showers on the face, pools or hot tubs for 48 hours. Open micro-channels plus bacteria is how breakouts happen.
- Strict sun avoidance for a week and mineral SPF 30 or higher from day 2 onward.
- Do not touch, pick or exfoliate flaking skin. Let it shed on its own.
- Clean pillowcase the first night, and wait 2 weeks before Botox, filler, waxing or a peel in the same area.

Microneedling FAQs
Does microneedling hurt?
Not much. We apply a medical numbing cream for 20 to 30 minutes first, and most clients describe the treatment as a vibrating, sandpaper-like feeling with a few sensitive spots on the forehead and around the nose. It takes about 30 minutes.
How many microneedling sessions do you need and how often?
Most clients do a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, then a maintenance session every 3 to 6 months. Acne scars and deeper texture often need 4 to 6. You will see a glow after the first session and real change in texture after the second or third.
How much does microneedling cost in Elmhurst?

Microneedling is one of the best treatments for acne scars, especially rolling and boxcar scars, because it rebuilds collagen under the scar. We do not needle over active, inflamed or cystic breakouts, since that can spread bacteria. If you are breaking out, we calm the skin first with an AquaJet facial or a peel, then start microneedling once it is clear.
What is the difference between microneedling and RF microneedling?
Regular microneedling (SkinPen) creates tiny channels to trigger collagen and works best for surface texture, pores, fine lines and mild scars. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat through the needles to tighten deeper layers, so it is the choice for loose skin, jowls, neck and deeper acne scars. RF costs more per session and has a day or two more downtime.
Microneedling with exosomes vs PRP, which is better?
Both are applied right after needling while the channels are open. PRP uses growth factors from your own blood, drawn at the visit, and is a proven choice for scars and under eyes. Exosomes are lab-purified signaling molecules with higher concentration, no blood draw, and noticeably faster calming of redness. Many clients alternate between the two across a series.
What is a vampire facial?
A vampire facial is microneedling with PRP: a small blood draw is spun to separate the platelet-rich plasma, which is then applied and needled into the skin. It is the same microneedling treatment with your own growth factors added for better healing and glow.
Chemical peel vs microneedling, which is better for acne scars and dark spots?
Microneedling is better for indented scars and texture, because it rebuilds collagen. Chemical peels are better for flat dark spots, melasma and uneven tone, because they lift pigment from the surface. Many clients with both concerns alternate the two a few weeks apart.
What can I put on my skin after microneedling?
For the first 24 hours, only the gentle cleanser and hydrating serum or balm we send home with you. From day 2, a plain moisturizer and mineral sunscreen. Hold retinoids, vitamin C, acids and makeup with active ingredients for 5 to 7 days.
Is microneedling safe for dark skin?
Yes. Because SkinPen uses no heat or light, it is safe for all skin tones, Fitzpatrick I through VI, and is one of the best options for deeper skin that cannot tolerate aggressive lasers. We adjust depth and prep the skin to minimize any risk of post-inflammatory pigment.
How long do microneedling results last?
